One of the most tuneful and popular operas in the canon, La traviata is Verdi's masterful story of the courtesan who finds true love in spite of herself. A film version, directed and designed by Franco Zeffirelli, and starring Teresa Stratas and Placido Domingo in their prime, with the Met Orchestra and Chorus, 1995.
