Art of Collecting with RA Jenkin & Charlie Steele, a Philatelist and President of the Stamptrotter of the Hudson Valley
R A Jenkin American Hieroglyphs (Sept 21 – Oct 26, 2024)
Although Charlie Steele lived in the Saugerties area most of his life, he was born in Manhattan. He married Donna in 1972. They are parents of two, and grandparents of six.
He started collecting stamps around 1958/59 to 1962 with the help from his father who also collected. There were a few interruptions to his collecting: military, college, marriage, buying a home, and starting a family.
He worked for the USPS as a Rural Mail Carrier in Woodstock, NY from 1985-2000.
He then started collecting again in the early 1980’s until about 1993. After that, came new interruptions: a new house, new job, and lots of work travel. He retired in 2005 and returned to collecting.
He is currently president of the Stamptrotters Society of the Hudson Valley (Stamptrotters). This club has been affiliated with the American Philatelic Society since 1961. We meet at the Red Hook VFW every 2nd and 4th Thursday. New members are always welcome.
Charlie Steel has several collecting interests: U.S. Penny Post and Locals, France and French North America, Canada and Newfoundland, Wurttemberg, Bavaria, Danzig and Saar, Germany until 1945, and Poland until 1940.
