Schedule :

- 10:00 -11:15 am Children’s program - led by storytellers Karen Golden and Joanie Calem.

- 10:00 -11:15 Telling a Tale!/part 2 - with Cherie Karo Schwartz. You will have this time to rehearse your chosen tale with each other, then share your stories with an appreciative audience.

- 11:15-11:45 am Performance by students from Congregations Nahalat Shalom and B’nai Israel.

- 12:00-1:00 pm LUNCH (provided for Festival ticket holders; if you are not a ticket. Holder and want to stay for pizza lunch, cost is $5.00 at the door or pay via the website)

- 1:10-2:20 pm Pass the Stories Please: The Gift of Family Storytelling - with Storyteller, Bob Kanegis. Create a web of stories in the moment and leave with an ornamental Family Storytelling Heirloom Talisman to pass on to future generations. This lively and heartfelt session will inspire and show us the way to strengthen family storytelling traditions.

- 2:30-3:15 pm Telling a Tale! Performance - featuring workshop participants. Come and support our first-time storytellers as they share the stories they worked on in their workshop.

- 3:15 pm Festival Closing

Featuring :

Izzy Abrahmson (aka Mark Binder) - is a storyteller and author who comes to us from Rhode Island, An Audie Award nominated storyteller, he tours the world transmitting joy through story to diverse audiences of all ages. His new book, The Council of Wise Women, will be available at the Festival.

Joanie Calem  - is a singer/songwriter, storyteller and inclusion advocate, coming to us from Columbus, Ohio. Joanie’s stories might be sung, they might be spoken, they might be drummed and they might be danced, but they will always provide a way for the listeners to participate, and join in the call to make room for us all. Joanie will be co-leading Saturday’s Storyteller Shabbat service and the Sunday morning family program.

Cherie Karo Schwartz - Cherie Karo Schwartz has been a Storyteller, Author and Educator for over 5 decades, sharing spirit-filled worldwide Jewish tales cross the country and abroad. Coming to us from Denver,  Colorado, she will be offering a two-part beginner’s storytelling workshop. You won’t want to miss this, but space is limited, so please register by contacting nmjewishstorytelling@gmail.com.

Karen Golden - Coming from Los Angeles, Karen’s stories span coast to coast and four continents. She will be co-leading our Sunday morning family program and on Saturday evening, after Havdallah, she’ll  present her mixed media show of storytelling, music and visuals: “Pilviskai: My Father’s Village” followed by Klezmer Music & dancing with the Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band

Bob Kanegis - Our own storyteller from Corrales, New Mexico, Bob Kanegis (aka) MoBob believes that we all have two great stories. The Story of Me and the Story of We.  Where they intersect is where  family and community happen. He performs and teaches nationwide, and serves as a story coach helping people find, craft and tell their most important stories. His storytelling/workshop  experience, Pass the Stories Please!  The Gift of Family Storytelling is for everyone who has family whether chosen or biological.

This year, we will be live only, and we welcome all our visitors and storytellers to Albuquerque, as well as our wonderful local talent, for a weekend filled with story, workshops, and community. Our “Storyteller’s Shabbaton” on Friday night and Saturday morning are free to all, as is our Sunday morning children/family program. For the second year, we are pleased to feature young Jewish storytellers from Congregation B’nai Israel and our own Nahalat Shalom.

To attend the rest of the Festival, you’ll need a ticket.  Join us for a Mid-Eastern feast after Saturday’s service and the “Rebbe’s Tische” where we’ll tell stories around the table.
