Performance - Nunsense
Book, Lyrics & Music By Dan Goggin
Directed by: Tina Barone
Nunsense is a musical farce about five nuns who put on a talent show to raise money to bury their sisters who died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by the convent cook. The show is a riotous mix of irreverent comedy, catchy songs, tap and ballet dancing, and comic surprises. The nuns, who include Sister Leo, Sister Robert Anne, Sister Mary Amnesia, Sister Regina, and Sister Mary Hubert, take over the school auditorium, which is being used for an eighth grade production of Grease, to stage their variety show.
Originating as a line of greeting cards, Goggin expanded the concept into a cabaret show that ran for 38 weeks, and eventually into a full-length musical. The original Off-Broadway production opened December 12, 1985, running for 3,672 performances and becoming the second-longest-running Off-Broadway show in history. The show has since been adapted for television, starring Rue McClanahan, and has spawned six sequels and three spin-offs.
