nh unique hotels

Vacationing is always a blast, but when the hotel you’re staying at becomes an integral part of the experience, that’s when you have something truly special. Infuse your stay with an adventure, whether through a themed suite, an indoor waterpark, or a haunted hotel. Unique hotels await you across New Hampshire, eager to ramp up your visit. Here are our 12 favorites.

Adventure Suites, North Conway, NH

The Adventure Suites is one of the most quality, delightfully eclectic hotels you’ll ever have the pleasure of stumbling across. Whether you dream of sleeping in a giant clamshell bed in “Deserted Island,” or you’re looking to boogey down in a nightclub themed room, there is something for everyone at the Adventure Suites. Luxury, optional add ons—like a monogrammed bathrobe waiting in your room upon arrival, or one of the “adult” themed packages to spice things up make North Conway’s Adventure Suites is a once in a lifetime stop. Perfect for bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays, or a honeymoon.

Stonehurst Manor, North Conway, NH

Another gem of the North Conway area is Stonehurst Manor, serving up serious romance since the 19th century. Whether you’re looking to ski or simply escape, this Victorian-esque hotel offers cozy quarters to help you connect. Breakfast and dinner on premises are both included in your rate, and there is even a wishing well on site to help fulfill all your romantic dreams. Built in 1871 as a summer estate for Erastus Bigelow, inventor of the electric weaving loom, Stonehurst had perhaps its most exciting summer in 1907, when it served as a temporary embassy for the British ambassador to the United States, Viscount James Bryce. You can almost feel the excitement of the political debate and glamorous parties once contained in Stonehurst’s walls, and it proves a fabulous retreat no matter the season or reason.

The Lion & the Rose Bed & Breakfast, Whitefield, NH

Set in an impeccably restored 1895 Queen Anne Victorian Painted Lady home, The Lion & the Rose is one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever had the pleasure to see. Inside, the excitement of themed rooms awaits. Whether you pick Egypt, Africa, or the Far East, luxurious surroundings and wonderful attention to detail bring each theme alive. If you venture outside your room, enjoy afternoon tea and homemade cookies, wine and hors d'oeuvres before dinner, and an elegant candlelit breakfast.

Three Chimneys Inn, Durham, NH

A 1649 homestead with 23 charming rooms, perfect for a romantic getaway or even to host a wedding. Durham’s Three Chimneys Inn seems like a typically quaint hotel, but it’s haunted history earns it a spot on our list. The ghost of a young woman, reportedly named Hannah, plays non-threatening pranks on guests and staff, along with a collection of other anonymous spirits. Visit Three Chimneys if you want to add a bit of mysterious excitement to your New Hampshire getaway.

KOA Kamping Kaboose, Twin Mountain, NH

Though technically categorized as a campground, KOA offers a hotel-like experience of a different breed. One very special “cabin” is located inside a 1932 Boston & Maine train caboose, complete with a set of tracks to take your imagination wherever you please. A two-room cabin that sleeps up to six, the KOA Kamping Kaboose presents a whole new view of New Hampshire, complete with Wi-Fi.

The Red Elephant Inn Bed & Breakfast, North Conway, NH

North Conway’s Red Elephant Inn Bed and Breakfast offers wonderfully themed guest rooms in a quaint, romantic environment. Choose from “New York” or “Paris,” lay back in the “Hippie Room” or go all out with the “Neiman Marcus” theme. The grounds of the Inn are another delightful surprise, with extensive gardens and picture perfect views.

Hampton Inn & Suites, North Conway, NH

While many visit New Hampshire for its breathtaking breadth of outdoor activities, North Conway’s Hampton Inn & Suites ups the ante with a 5,000-square-foot indoor water park. Use of the park is included in all room rates, and makes a great rainy day activity or way to wind down after braving the great outdoors.

Wentworth by the Sea, Newcastle, NH

The last of its kind, Newcastle’s Wentworth by the sea is a remnant left from an era of refined sophistication and quiet grandeur. Named on the National Trust’s list of Distinctive Destinations, the building in its current form was constructed in 1888 as just one of over 400 “grand hotels” of New Hampshire. In its original heyday, celebrities such as Annie Oakley, Gloria Swanson, and Harry Truman visited the Wentworth, and the 1999 film “In Dreams” starring Robert Downey Jr. and Annette Benning was filmed on site. Step back to a time of dignity and luxury travel with an overnight at the Wentworth, or go old school and book a room for the season.

Hilton Garden Inn Manchester Downtown, Manchester, NH

The Downtown Manchester Hilton Garden Inn is not necessarily unique in its accommodation, but rather its location. Built almost on top of the minor-league Fisher Cats’ baseball stadium. Catch a game in person, from your window, or enjoy dinner while you cheer on the Fisher Cats with patio dining. A wonderfully exciting stay for both children and their fun-loving parents.

The Inn at East Hill Farm, Troy, NH

It is difficult to imagine a more family friendly vacation than a stay East Hill Farm. In addition to being a fully working farm, the Inn at East Hill offers stellar activities for both children and adults. In addition to typically offerings of swimming and cross country skiing, East Hill also has activities such as dodge ball and a summer talent show. Children can learn to milk a cow, or collect their own eggs before breakfast, and all are welcome to meet the animals and learn more about life on a farm.

The Centennial Hotel, Concord, NH

A gorgeous hotel in Concord, the Centennial was once a home for widows of the Civil War. Experience the rich history of the Centennial alongside sleek modern amenities, such as a Tesla docking station and events like “Whiskey Wednesday.” Coupled with truly impeccable service, The Centennial is a unique destination sure to leave a lasting impression.

Woodstock Inn Station & Brewery, North Woodstock, NH
