"The Cradle of Southern U.S. Horticulture in My Grandmother's Backyard in China" Jerry Yu, N.C. State University
Cohosted by the Piedmont Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society and the JC Raulston Arboretum
Jerry Yu, a horticulture major at NCSU, revisited his birthplace and ancestral villages this past summer in China. He visited areas in the provinces of Guangdong, Hunan, and Yunnan. Plants of interest were various species of cycads, primula, arisaema, rhododendron, smilax, begonia, and much more in the lush areas he visited, which included the family leases in Hunan and two public parks. Listen to how the most basic to the rarest plants of Southeastern U.S. horticulture fit into the integrated foodscapes and medicinal cabinets of Southcentral China.
