The Margaret C. Woodson Planetarium has been in operation since 1967 and is still using the original Spitz A3P star projector. In 2006 the facility was upgraded from slide-based programming to digital projection using East Coast Control System automation. There is a 30-foot dome and seating for 72.

In addition to school curriculum-based programming, the facility is available by special request. Live star talks, planetary journeys, and space exploration are some of the many topics available. Contact the Planetarium Director to customize a visit for your group. Those residing in Rowan or Davie County are served free of charge. Please contact the Horizons Unlimited office for pricing.

We also offer a wide range of laser light programs from Pink Floyd to U2; Metallica to Zeppelin! In addition there are seasonal shows and laser star stories. Playlists can be adjusted in length and content to suit your needs. Groups interested in scheduling a laser event should contact the Planetarium Director for date and time availability.
