North Carolina is home to some cool, low-key craft breweries as well as big-name brewmasters ready to show off their stuff. Here are the best breweries in the state.


Asheville Brewing Company, Asheville, NC

Ready to grab a beer, some pizza and watch a movie? Asheville Brewing Company in North Asheville has been providing “award-winning, locally-brewed with love, craft beer,” since 1998. The child and dog friendly establishment is home to a pizzeria, brewery, discount movie cinema, and game room. The company has three locations in total and the North Asheville location allows you to dine in, carryout, or delivery. 

Mash House Brewing Company, Fayetteville, NC

Winner of seven awards, the Mash House Brewing Company has plenty to offer. The brewery portion of the establishment serves “no preservatives and only the finest ingredients.” Supporter of local, North Carolina farmers, the Mash House Brewing Company uses only the best to provide customers with fresh beer that is brewed right out the front door. 

Lynnwood Brewing Concern, Raleigh, NC

Located in Raleigh, Lynnwood is a dog and child-friendly space. It is commonly considered for its “nice atmosphere” and “awesome beer.” In fact, according to data provided on the Visit NC website, six different brews are served. Fresh ingredients are used with every brew to give award-winning tastes. Tours are also available to customers.

Olde Hickory Tap Room, Hickory, NC

The Olde Hickory Tap Room, a restaurant with beer of great history, opened to the public in 1994. The brewery provides beer lovers of Olde Hickory Tap Room with beers that are created with skillful consideration. As mentioned on the Old Hickory website, the bar has 20 taps that in total offers access to more than 200 different wines and 750 different liquors. 

Good Hops Brewing, Carolina Beach, NC

Established in 2014, the Good Hops Brewing focuses on great beer and a good time. Free tours are offered daily and you’re guaranteed to find a beer to enjoy. If you are concerned with what is in your beer, so is the brewery. They provide beer with no “additives, no preservatives, no filtering agents, no animal byproducts, no GMOs.” Good Hops offers many selections to choose from including seasonal beers.

Hi-Wire, Asheville, NC

In the heart of Asheville, Hi-Wire is one of the best. Currently, the brewery has two taprooms. South Slope is in downtown Asheville and Big Top at 2 Huntsman Place of Asheville. Hi-Wire bottles and sells both ales and lagers. Hi-Wire beers can be found in many grocery stores and restaurants across the state, but experiencing the brewery is a must!

Fullsteam Brewery, Durham, NC

If you’re in search of a brewery that is family and dog friendly until 9 p.m. and supports the community, Fullsteam is your next stop. When brewing the beer, the company doesn’t forget about local farms and uses only the finest North Carolina ingredients. Fullsteam has won more than a few awards and was named “one of the five coolest craft beer tours in America” by Yahoo! Travel. Stop on by to check out the beer, and the food trucks! 

Clouds Brewing, Raleigh, NC

Opened in 2014, Clouds Brewing provides 40 beers to choose from. Unique from other breweries in the area, the bar is equipped with RFID technology that allows customers to not only start a tab, but also to pour their own beverage. On the menu, the brewery serves items such as salads, burgers/sandwiches, and more. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available. Clouds Brewing is also available for booking events with both outdoor and indoor venues.

Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Boone, NC

Appalachian Mountain Brewery is with one mission and that mission is to “sustainably brew high quality beer, support local non-profits and help our community prosper.” Programs supported by the brewery are the Pints for Non-Profits, ASU Fermentation Sciences and the AMB Venture Capital Fund. Common events you will find occurring at the Appalachian Mountain Brewery are the Trivia Tuesdays, Share Nights, Open Mic Nights, and live music. A variety of beers and ciders are on tap to try.
