“800 Years Young” tells the story of Dandy, a bard, who celebrates turning 800 years old by partying with audiences and sharing lessons from immortality.
"800 Years Young" sparked from Luke "Skippy" Harbur attending first Renaissance Fair in 2023. He became enamored by bards, their garbs, and their ballads. However, he felt a wall of separation between him and the actors preserving the medieval facade, so “800 Years Young” is his answer to bridge the past to present. Artists affecting his inspiration include Hildegard von Blingin’, Jaskier in the Netflix series Witcher, the comedic styles of Bo Burnham, and the autobiographical, historical storytelling style of Lin-Manuel Miranda. “800 Years Young" follows the story of Dandy, a bard, who’s lived on earth for the last 800 years. We meet him on his 800th birthday, wherein the audience are his birthday party attendees. Serenading an audience member, the art form of beatboxing, and offering an end of show Q&A are all parts of this historical fiction for all ages. Dandy serves as a pillar to take part in society's more difficult, critical conversations surrounding, race, religion, war, politics, death, and the power of how shaping society happens in the moment, within our hearts and hands.
