Meramec Valley Historical Museum

About  Us:

The Meramec Valley Historical Museum Committee was formed in 1999. The intent of the committee was to collect items and preserve the history of the area including Pacific, Gray Summit, Labadie, Robertsville, Catawissa and Villa Ridge. The beginning of the museum was a display case that had been donated to the committee. The case was placed in the lobby of City Hall and was soon filed with artifacts from the area. This display case is still in the lobby of City Hall.

In 2005 the City of Pacific purchased a lot and home from the Wolf family in the downtown area for future use. Since the city had no immediate plans for the home, the city offered the committee to use it as a museum. After many hours of moving items and setting up the different displays the museum officially opened at the 2006 Cruise Night.

Today the museum is home to many papers, photos and artifacts that have been donated showcasing the areas rich history. Some of the items you can see at the museum include the counters from the Goss Bakery, items from Purina Farms, old year books, railroad items and the first item donated, a glass light fixture that once hung in the Citizens Bank of Pacific that was located in the Birdsong Pharmacy building. Our museum also includes a Veterans Hall of Fame, which has photos of nearly 500 local veterans from the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam, Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq and Peacetime.

We are looking for new members to join us to help preserve our history. The Meramec Valley Historical Museum Committee meets at 7pm on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Museum. Our meetings are open to the public.
