Notorious for her scandalous love affairs and renowned for her beauty, the Countess used photography to transform herself into an icon, creating a remarkable body of self-portraiture that defied the conventions of her day This small book lends itself to a broader discussion of themes that are as relevant today as in the Countess’s own time like the commodification of the self, fame, beauty and the role that photography plays.
