mi first date locations

Everyone knows that first impressions are what it’s all about. So, when you’re choosing a location for your first date with someone, you want it to be comfortable! There are plenty of places across Michigan that are suitable for breaking the ice with someone. From beautiful scenic areas, to cafes, to adventure parks, here are the 8 first date locations in the state.

Capri Drive-In Theater, Coldwater, MI

It doesn't get much more classic than a drive-in movie. This old-time favorite will bring a wave of nostalgia and provide the perfect setting for you and your date to kick back and enjoy a good film. Be sure to keep up with their schedule to see what's currently screening!

Chateau Chantal Winery & Inn, Traverse City, MI

This Traverse City winery makes for a relaxing romantic date. Participate in one of their wine tastings, where you can sample six wines and receive a souvenir tasting glass! If you’re interested in a more informative experience, experience one of their tours, offered daily. On their wine cellar tours, guests get to hear all about the craft of making fine wines.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

A bit weather-dependent, but if you've got good weather to be outside, this could be a winner. Head to Empire for the Sleeping Bear Dunes, a beach that was famously declared the most beautiful place in America by a “Good Morning America” poll.

Cadieux Café, Detroit, MI

The Cadieux Cafe in Detroit takes things just a little farther by introducing a game into the mix: feather bowling. Cadieux Cafe is currently the only home to feather bowling in the United States—the game has also fallen out of favor in its origin point of Belgium—and it's essentially a combination of horseshoes and bocce ball played with wooden discs. When not feather bowling, check out the cafe's line of musical acts, as well as Belgian specialty dinners, appetizers, drinks and more. Perfect for dates!

Bavarian Belle, Frankenmuth, MI

There's a lot to see and do in Frankenmuth, but for those who want a laid-back experience with plenty of time for idle chat, the Bavarian Belle riverboat—or one of its equivalents throughout the state—could be just what you needed. A one-hour tour, the stern-driven Bavarian Belle will cruise the river, showing off all of Frankenmuth complete with historical narration.

Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum, Ann Arbor, MI

If you're searching for a nice stroll for a date, then head to Ann Arbor and the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. Containing a wide array of plant life, as well as representing an architectural triumph in its own right—it's the largest free-span conservatory of its style around.

Comerica Park, Detroit, MI

What’s better than catching a classic American baseball game? Head on over to Comerica Park to catch a Detroit Tigers game, which are always exciting. Baseball games not only provide an opportunity to see some of the best athletes live and in person, but also plenty of opportunity for chatting, grabbing snacks, and singing along to ballpark tunes.

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids, MI

Featuring year-round capability—with both indoor and outdoor components to it—those who want a walking date with plenty of plants and sculptures to see will find great common ground at Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. Plants, artwork, and even a time of year where dozens of butterflies are on hand, there's a little something different here for every part of the year.
