me wineries

Regarding the perfect backdrop for sipping wine, Maine offers some of the most stunning views on the East Coast. Scenic vistas paired with wines made of grapes sourced from Europe and the West Coast, connoisseurs will get a true wine-tasting experience right here in Maine. Here are our eight favorite wineries in the state.

Cellardoor Winery, Lincolnville, ME

Located just a few miles from Camden, Cellardoor Winery is one of Maine’s most popular wineries. The winery does have about five acres of grapes that are grown on the property, but most of the grapes are sourced from the West Coast and New York. Cellardoor offers a variety of red and white wines along with specialty wines like a wild Maine blueberry wine and a maple syrup infused port wine.

Bar Harbor Cellars, Bar Harbor, ME

Located at Sweet Pea Farm in quaint Bar Harbor, the Bar Harbor Cellars Winery has been producing wine for over 10 years. Grapes are sourced from Europe and local fruit is used to create a variety of delicious local wines.

Prospect Hill Winery, Lebanon, ME

Prospect Hill Winery is a family run business located in Southern Maine. They only produce wines made from their own grapes grown on the property. While the wine is fully organic, the winery follows a low spray program and hand picks and crush their grapes all on the same day.

Dragonfly Farm & Winery, Stetson, ME

Dragonfly Farm & Winery specializes in German Riesling-style wines and French hybrids. Every year the winery produces seven varieties of whites, six reds, and eight different fruit wines using locally sourced fruit. And when you’re tired of wine, don’t forget to try the maple syrup.

Winterport Winery & Penobscot Bay Brewery, Winterport, ME

Opened in 2001, the Winterport Winery & Penobscot Bay Brewery is a family-owned and run business just outside of Bangor. All the wines have fun names and most have flavors of local fruit, like the Raspberry Rain and Crackling Cranberry.

Hidden Spring Winery, East Hodgdon, ME

Hidden Spring Winery started from a simple wine kit for Christmas and has now grown into a small winery producing a selection of delicious fruit wines. Check their website for special tasting weekends, like the “Oysters in October” event.

Two Hogs Winery, Vassalboro, ME

Opened in 2004, Two Hogs Winery is a small winery producing wines from local fruits and berries. From peach to rhubarb to blueberry, you’ll definitely have your pick of the perfect summertime wine.

Bartlett Estate Winery, Gouldsboro, ME

Bartlett Estate Winery opened in 1975 and has since been making quality Maine wines in Down East Maine. The winery presses over 7,000 cases a year of twenty different varieties ranging from dry blueberry reds to sweet blackberry dessert wines. You’ll definitely want to check this award-winning winery out on your next visit to Mount Desert Island.

While Maine might not grow as much grapes as California, we still have some pretty impressive fruit and grapes wines that go perfectly with that fresh steamed lobster.
