The Thompson Ice House
The Thompson Ice House is a working museum dedicated to the methods of traditional ice harvesting in South Bristol, Maine. In 1974 the Thompson Ice House was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is believed to be the only commercial ice house on the Register to have stored naturally frozen ice harvested in the traditional way from a nearby pond.
Thompson Ice House Preservation Corporation oversees the operation of the ice house. Two events are sponsored on an annual basis – the ice harvest in February and the old-fashioned ice cream social in July.
