Yes, the central duel of wits between Jodie Foster’s FBI agent and Anthony Hopkins’ elegant cannibal serial killer showcases staggering talent from both actors. Any way you look at it, Demme’s great film, in some regards totally uncharacteristic of his often warm and supremely human work, is simply excellent moviemaking.
