For several long months during the winter, the state of Maine is blanketed with a sheet of snow making playing certain outdoor sports very difficult. Since Mainers love their soccer and lacrosse, there are quite a few multi-sport facilities throughout the state that run year-round programs. Here are the 10 best sports centers in the state! 

Alfond Sports Arena, Orono, ME

The Alfond Sports Arena, part of the University of Maine, is one of the finest all-purpose facilities in the Northeast. Home to the University of Maine Black Bears, the Alfond Arena includes 13 skyboxes, athletic training room, and hockey arena. The arena can be transformed to hold other events like graduations and basketball games. 

Portland Sports Complex, Portland, ME

The Portland Sports Complex is Maine’s premier sports, convention, and entertainment facility. Throughout the year, the Portland Sports Complex hosts children and adult leagues of various sports, like soccer, lacrosse, baseball, dodgeball, and more. The facility can also be rented for camps, workshops, and birthday parties. 

All Pro Sports, Waterville, ME

Run by ex-professional soccer player, Gary Walker, the All Pro Sports has both a multi-purpose indoor and outdoor fields for soccer, football, lacrosse, baseball, and ultimate Frisbee. Multiple sports leagues are run year-round for both children and adults. Tons of sports clinics are run by the local coaches and professional coaches from Europe throughout the year. 

Gorham Sports Center, Gorham, ME

The Gorham Sorts Center is a large indoor turf field available for year-round sporting events, team practices, school and corporate events, and more. The facility hosts their own indoor tournaments, skill-building programs, and soccer leagues throughout the year. The turf is meticulously maintained and the facility is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Portland. 

OA Performance Center, Saco, ME

The OA Performance Center in Saco is a state-of-the-art facility for the serious athlete. Connected with Orthopedics Associates, the facility offers athletes of all shapes, sizes, and abilities to opportunity to work with professional strength and conditioning coaches to recover from injury, build speed, strength, agility, and more. The facility is home to OA Parisi Speed School, the Michael Phelps Skill Center, sports massage, and baseball biomechanical throwing analysis technology. 

XL Sports World, Saco, ME

XL Sports World in Saco was one of Maine’s first indoor multi-sport facilities. The indoor facility includes two boarded turf fields, three basketball courts, a 24-hour fitness center, and a sports bar and viewing area. Kids will love the Bounce Zone where they can play in an inflatable playhouse and obstacle course. 

Anti Gravity Complex, Carrabassett Valley, ME

The Anti-Gravity Center at Sugarloaf Mountain is home to Maine’s largest indoor skate park. The 20,000-square-foot facility also features trampolines, an indoor rock climbing wall, and a multi-purpose gym with walking track and weight room. After a day of skiing, bring the kids down here to really make them sleep well. 

Maine Pines Racquet & Fitness, Brunswick, ME

The Maine Pines Racquet & Fitness center in Brunswick is one the country’s Top 50 Tennis Welcome Centers and has been named the USTA New England Club of the Year. The facility features six heated indoor courts, a bar lounge, weight room, yoga and spin room, and a large aerobics studio for classes. Lessons, clinics, and leagues are available for all ages from young to old. 

The Pitch, Warren, ME

The Pitch in Warren is a start-of-the-art facility along the coast of Maine. The large facility is home to a 180 by 279-foot indoor artificial turf surface and fitness room for strength and conditioning and personal training. The Pitch hosts multiple soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey leagues throughout the year-round with additional pick-up leagues for adults. 

Harold Alfond Center Sports Complex, Standish, ME

The Harold Alfond Sports Complex at St. Joseph’s College in Standish features a gym, six-lane swimming pool, indoor running track, fitness center, climbing wall, and saunas to keep you fit and healthy. The pool is open to the public and one of the nicest in Maine, but the rest of the facility is reserved to members only.
