On the desert planet of Tatooine, farm boy Luke Skywalker dreams of a life beyond the endless sand dunes. After purchasing droids R2-D2 and C-3PO to help around the farm, Luke discovers that they bear a distress message from the alluring Princess Leia, who has obtained secret plans for the Death Star, a massive weapon created by the evil Galactic Empire. Joined by the hermit Ben Kenobi, who harbors a dangerous secret, and scruffy smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca, Luke sets off to rescue Princess Leia from the clutches of the cruel Darth Vader, and is swept into a conflict of galactic proportions.
