Artworks at 7th Gallery
8905 Chesapeake Avenue (at 2nd St.)
This month at the Artworks@7th Gallery, Lonnie Harkins, will be the solo artist in the upcoming show “Motley Media” for the Month of August. Lonnie is primarily a scratchboard artist but he also dabbles in an ever growing list of other mediums. This show will feature many of these, such as photography, drawing, silverwork, ceramics, woodwork, and others.
Join Lonnie and other Artworks artists at the show reception on August 3rd from 1-4 pm to see just how many mediums he will have on display. Light refreshments will be served.
Also, this month our guest artist is Judith Armstrong, a Maryland based pencil artist and creator of Sista 2 Sista. Her inspiration comes from her late sister, Lynda. Growing up in the 1950’s and 60’s in Southern New Jersey, they often didn’t see women of color in magazines, newspapers or television shows. Her sister Lynda wanted to change that narrative one day and spent hours sketching women who looked like them in fashionable dresses and gowns and wearing hats and gloves. She was an inspiration to Judith. In 1980, her sister passed away at the age of 33 and was never able to fulfill her dream of attending fashion school. But she did leave Judith with a vision - to draw women, men and families that look like them. Sista 2 Sista is a creative celebration of beauty Judith sees in not just the brown and beige but in ALL of us.
Money spent locally stays in the local economy and continues to strengthen the economic base of the entire community. Small local businesses make indispensable contributions to communities and neighborhoods. Supporting local artists allows them the opportunity to continue to serve their communities. You will often see members of Artworks@7th supporting local charities and organizations by participating in art shows, teaching workshops, and donating items for fundraisers.
