md breweries

Maryland has a ton of microbreweries, whose beers rival anything you could try on the West Coast. From Baltimore to Southern Maryland, you are sure to find something that is unique, and will easily be your new favorite! Here are our 7 favorite breweries to start your tasting tour.

Heavy Seas Taproom, Halethorpe, MD

This Halethorpe favorite is all about risk taking and adventure, and has been for decades. These are the guys likely to walk around in pirate costumes, just because. They have tap room events and tours, feature beers on tap and cask, and support clean water. Try a sampler or dive into something unique like their Tropi Cannon citrus IPA.

Mully’s Brewery, Prince Frederick, MD

Owned and operated by a husband and wife who are graduates of the World Brewing Academy and have been brewing classic favorites in Calvert County. Their focus on creating small batches of local favorites makes them a must visit spot. They have received numerous awards including a gold medal for their Pumpkin Ale last year and their Rye Saison.

Union Craft Brewing, Baltimore, MD

You can find locals drinking beer and playing corn-hole outside of the tap room and brewery. They offer free brewery tours and you can leave with your own growler after enjoying a pint. Be sure to stop by regularly to try their varying seasonal selection and then stock up on your favorites.

Brookeville Beer Farm, Brookeville, MD

For a unique experience visit the Brookeville Beer Farm. As a working farm, they are growing everything that goes into the brewing process. When you want to go old school fresh, you can’t get any fresher than this. With a bright and cheery patio to enjoy an afternoon pint, you can be surrounded by the beauty of a local farm while tasting the difference it makes when the ingredients are grown in the fields you drove by to get here. It’s a fabulous experience.

Jailbreak Brewing Company, Laurel, MD

Unique brews like their Chairy cherry cream ale and Welcome to Scottsville jalapeño IPA make for an interesting drink and reason to stop by the tap room. They also have more classic favorites like an orange hefeweizen, stouts, IPAs, and amber ales. They have kosher certified beers as well, making this a destination spot in Maryland.

Eastern Shore Brewing, St. Michaels, MD

Another family-friendly place, you can bring your kids and dogs to Eastern Shore Brewing and try their seasonal favorites year-round. Their flagship beer is the St. Michaels Ale, an easy-to-drink Amber. Everything brewed on site and the taproom is a fun destination for locals and Eastern Shore tourists alike.

Waredaca Brewing Company, Laytonsville, MD

This farm brewery specializes in using ingredients grown right there on the farm to produce bold and interesting flavors in their craft brews. They tie their production schedule to harvest time so if you are trying to live, eat and drink naturally—the Waredaca Brewing Company should be on your list of favorites. Try their Bunkhouse, farmhouse ale and taste their farm grown hops in every sip.
