Let's meet the brilliant bookends to this passionate musical fest. Mozart's opulent overture is a seven-minute symphonic synopsis of one of the best operas ever. Yes, this cautionary tale has it all: seduction, scandal, murder, revenge–and a sinister seducer who ultimately meets his fiery fate. Everyone knows things have a way of coming full circle. Especially for Louise Farrenc, who went from well-known to hardly known. The composer, concert pianist, and professor at the posh Paris Conservatoire stormed the citadel of classical music during her time, but her memory faded over time. Until now. Her legacy lives on in this bold and brilliant symphony that speaks to Mozart and Beethoven but in a rich and Romantic musical dialect all her own.

Our "Better Together" story continues with the evening's famous centerpiece. Joaquin Rodrigo, Spain's leading composer, wrote this concerto for Andres Segovia, the country's virtuoso guitarist. Years later, Segovia became Eliot Fisk's teacher and champion, calling him "one of the most brilliant, intelligent, and gifted young musical artists of our times." Well, Eliot's all grown up now and a musical legend for all-time. It seems especially fitting to have him perform this piece he seems to have inherited…if only for a night.
