The Walk 'n Mass Volkssport Club invites walkers to complete a 5km or 10km (3.1 or 6.2 mile) walk route in Medway, MA. This is a walk-at-your-own pace, just-for-fun event “in your own backyard”.

The start point is Choate Park, 7 Oak Street (off Main Street/Rt. 109), Medway, MA 02053.

The walk start time for the 10km is 9:00-10:00 a.m. and the 5km start is 10:15-11:00 a.m. The start times are staggered so walkers can finish shortly prior to noon when the club picnic begins. Walkers are invited to join fellow walkers for the Walk’n Mass club picnic. This is a carry-in/carry-out venue, and we ask walkers to bring their own picnic lunch. If walkers wish to bring a dessert or appetizer to share, please do.

For parking, we have been asked to use the baseball field parking area at Cassidy Field, which adjoins the walking path that circles the pond at Choate Park. From Rt. 109 near the Choate Park main entrance, at traffic light turn onto Winthrop St. Take left on Cassidy Field Road and park in the area on the left. From the parking area, walk toward the 2-story gray building. With this building on your right, follow the path to the left and continue for a short distance to the covered pavilion in Choate Park.

Both 5km and 10km routes include natural trails around a pond and through a wooded area in Choate Park. Attendees will pass an old racquetball wall that local artist Mike “Mike Canman” Cannistrro turned into a mural depicting wildlife and pondlife found in the area. The routes continue on town sidewalks through residential and commercial areas of Medway.

The 10km distance includes the Medway Village Historic District in the southwest corner of town. Stately homes in the Georgian and Federal architectural styles still exist here today.

The first part of the 5km and 10km walk routes are on natural surfaces with a few inclines, while the remainder of the routes are on sidewalks.

Volkssporting events sponsored by Walk 'n Mass Volkssport Club promote fun, fitness and friendship through non-competitive walking and biking events for a $4 participation fee. There is also an achievement awards program through the AVA America’s Walking Club. For more information contact Beate at beate1h@aol.com or visit www.walknmass.org.
