This FREE community event on Saturday, October 26th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm features hands-on activities taught by tribe members including corn husk dolls and scallop shell pendants. Author Linda Coombs will share readings from her children’s book Colonization and the Wampanoag Story and be available for book sales and signing. The Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers will perform at 12:30.
Enjoy gallery exhibits featuring educational panels explaining the significance of King Phillip’s War, a Wampum Belt that has been built by the community over the past three years, and a multimedia exhibition by artist Ej Mills Brennan.
Take time to visit Highfield’s StoryWalk throughout the month featuring Rock Your Mocs, Pow Wow Day, and Keepunumuk, starting October 14th, Indigenous Peoples Day, and continuing through the month.
This event was made possible due in part through the generous support from the Rotary Club of Falmouth, and Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe’s Education Department.
Highfield is hosting programs and activities throughout October to raise awareness of the culture and history of local tribes whose ancestral lands include Cape Cod, the Islands, and reach to Marshfield and the Blue Hills. Check out everything that is happening in our month-long celebration!
