NEW BEDFORD, MA — Broken Glass Projection Mapping will present a captivating evening of art, light, and music with a special 3-D Light Show at St. Anthony of Padua Church, in collaboration with the historic church, New Bedford TDI Partnership and Explore New Bedford, this December, 2024. The immersive experience will be held on Saturday, December 7, beginning at 5:00 p.m. inside St. Anthony of Padua Church at 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, MA and is open to the public free of charge.
Projection mapping, an art form that has captivated audiences worldwide, transforms everyday structures into stunning works of art by projecting vibrant videos and images onto them. This unique 3-D technique, pioneered across Europe, arrived in New Bedford through the creative expertise of local artist Nelson Rapoza, founder of Broken Glass Projection Mapping. Known for bringing 3-D projection mapping to venues like the New Bedford Whaling Museum, Fort Rodman, and most recently to Acushnet Avenue on Halloween, Rapoza's work combines intricate visuals with powerful colors and light to breathe life into architectural landmarks.
This special event at St. Anthony of Padua Church will bring new dimension and vibrancy to the historic contours of one of New Bedford's most beloved landmarks. The show will not only feature breathtaking visuals but will also be accompanied by live music, enhancing the sensory experience for attendees. Hot chocolate will also be served downstairs in the church hall.
"Bringing this art form to St. Anthony's, a building steeped in history and significance for our community, is an honor," said Nelson Rapoza. "Through projection mapping, we're able to see the familiar in a new and exciting way, and we're eager to share that with the New Bedford community."
St. Anthony of Padua Church, together with the New Bedford TDI Partnership, invites everyone to this unforgettable event celebrating the intersection of art, history, and innovation with Broken Glass Projection Mapping. It's yet another opportunity to Love The Ave - the latest in a series of special events that showcase the culture and creative businesses centered around the commercial corridor of Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford's north end.
