When fall arrives in New England, the apples are ripe for picking. Massachusetts is home to countless apple orchards where the fruit is perfect for eating and baking. Spend an afternoon with the family picking apples at one of these great Massachusetts spots—and be sure to save enough to bake a pie or two when you get back home.


Honey Pot Hill Orchards, Stow, MA

Family owned and operated since 1926, Honey Pot Hill Orchards is a great place for apple picking. The whole farm is family friendly, with animals to pet, hedge mazes and hayrides. 

Cider Hill Farm, Amesbury, MA

Check the website to make sure apple picking has begun, but definitely check out Cider Hill Farm. A visit to the farm store finds you pointed in the perfect direction for ripe apples for eating and baking. The farm store stocks a nice array of homemade baked treats.

Carlson Orchards, Harvard, MA

Pick apples at Carlson Orchards, and be sure to pick up something tasty from their farm stand, too. Using their fresh fruits and other local ingredients, you’ll enjoy cider, jelly and more.

Tougas Family Farm, Northborough, MA

You’ll pick apples with your family, but first you’ll enjoy a wagon ride to the orchard when you visit Tougas Family Farm. Be sure to pick up a pie or some homemade doughnuts before you leave.

Pick your own apples at Bartlett’s Orchard, where the farm stand is open year-round. Apple muffins, apple turnovers, apple pies and apple cookies grace the farm store. Their apple cider is pressed on site.

Breezelands Orchards, Warren, MA

In operation since 1896, Breezelands Orchards prides itself on being a family friendly orchard. An orchard tour via tractor is fun for everyone, and the picnic areas afford everyone the opportunity to take a break for lunch. Be sure to check out the farm stand and the apple cider doughnuts.

Brooksby Farm, Peabody, MA

It’s easy for families to create lasting memories on this scenic, historic farm. Spend the day outside picking all of your favorites at Brooksby. 

C.N. Smith Farm, Inc., East Bridgewater, MA

This family owned and operated farm has been around since the 1920s (when it started as a potato farm). Here, you can pick your own strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, pumpkins, and apples. Check their harvest dates online before you head out, but their apple selection includes: McIntosh, Macoun, Cortland, Empire, Northern Spy, Granny Smith, and more! Stop by their farm stand for yummy apple cider doughnuts.
