New Orleans Sacred Music Festival
The New Orleans Sacred Music Festival is an annual celebration of the intersection of music and spirituality in New Orleans. The Festival was born from the daydreams and conversations of a few friends affiliated with The New Orleans Healing Center, and has grown into the region's first and only volunteer-run, volunteer-produced Sacred Music Festival.
This year's festival honors the ability of sacred music to transcend boundaries and bring healing to connect us to each other and to the Divine. The event works to generate public venue, while promoting cultural understanding between diverse group in a celebration of human spirit and the rich spiritual and cultural traditions represented in our city. Sacred music has the power to heal the wounds of violence and restore peace to neighborhoods. Ancient yet cutting edge, fun, lively, and full of magical moments, The Sacred Music Festival appeals to everyone's inner spirit. Where else are you going to see Tibetan monks rocking out to Gospel music?
The Sacred Music Festival brings performers from New Orleans' diverse faith and cultural communities to share music, chants, prayers, brief ceremonies and conversations about the transformative power of music with the public. At a time when there is still much division, conflict, and misunderstanding in the world between people of different faiths -- we believe The New Orleans Sacred Music Festival is a vitally important summit where people of diverse cultures and traditions can come together and share their voices through the universal and unifying power of music.
Inspirational and uplifting, yet serious and profoundly personal, all sacred music carries similar themes of hope, no matter what language is spoken. The festival is an opportunity to promote understanding and awareness and pay homage to the city's traditions in a respectful, sacred and healing environment.
