Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 09:00am to 05:00pm
Acadiana Center for the Arts
101 West Vermilion Street
Roz LeCompte: RÊVERIE is an exhibition of mixed media paintings, objects and sculpture which explore southern identity in radical and playful ways. In speaking of this exhibition the artist explains:
“Tapping into the flow state has become a therapeutic practice. One that has been present and available to me since I can remember. It offers an escape from reality where I can process being human. I have become infatuated with my homeland, heritage, memories, and subconscious. What ends up on my wooden canvases is heavily influenced by symbols and images from my dreams. The challenge of remaining open to the constant evolution that mindful expression offers is a ride I hope never ends.”
Rozalyn LeCompte was born and raised by musicians in Acadiana and has created art since she could hold a crayon. She has been a full-time artist since retiring from the Healing Arts profession in 2017.
Roz has recently transitioned from creating and running a musical accessory brand back to her first love of painting. She is self-taught and has explored many mediums including recycled sculpture, poetry, and mixed media collage. She has journeyed from abstract to a chaotic whimsical folk art style that allows her to filter her life experiences onto the wood canvases that she builds.
