“SIMPLE JOYS”
Seeing the Festival through the eyes of a child.
Children in their innocence and purity naturally live in the present moment and enjoy its magic and beauty for what it is. This poster tries to capture the innocence and magic of two small friends as they sit in the shade of an oak tree on the grass of the fairgrounds with their loyal puppy who tagged along for the day. As they dwell in the present moment with no worries of time, they take in the sites and aromas of the festival while enjoying a freshly made corn dog from the cart that just rolled by.
The simple joy of that moment reminds me of a quote from Winnie the Pooh, “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most space in your heart.” This poster scene represents that small thing, that little moment of simple joy that engages the senses and makes us feel present. These are the moments that live on forever in our hearts as cherished memories.
The Etouffee Festival is a local celebration of the culture and food of south Louisiana. The festival began as a fundraiser for the Little Flower School in 1985, and was initially established by the Knights of Columbus. Since that time, the school has closed, but the church parish continues the tradition of the festival to help offset the costs of insuring the school buildings. The buildings are still used by the parish for CCD, RCIA, Adoration Chapel, St Therese Thrift Center, and other Church related functions.
