Over 5,000 carved pumpkins are displayed nightly mid-October to early November each year, and cover a 1,500-foot trail. The USS Nightmare, Newport, KY

Designed for death, the USS Nightmare sits moored along the banks of the Ohio River in Newport, waiting for your visit. All of your senses will be on high alert as you see, hear, feel, and touch what waits for you aboard this floating laboratory gone wrong. Designed after William S. Mitchell, a dredge ship that mysteriously broke free and was swept downstream, slamming into four bridges along the way, the USS Nightmare embodies, or disembodies, the people who were aboard that fateful night. Danger Run, Louisville, KY

Another non-traditional Halloween event that’s sure to curl your toes, melt your moustache, and generally scare the dickens out of you, Danger Run in downtown Louisville is an adventure you don’t want to miss. Gather your friends, pick your location, and set out to solve riddles that take you around an area to two of the city’s best haunted houses. Along the way, you’ll run into all kinds of creatures, dead and alive, who are committed to stopping you. Maybe you’ll be committed! It’s all good fun, and you’ll even have a chance to win prizes.
