The Johnson County Museum invites the public to step back into the sparkle of the 1950s with a special holiday exhibit celebrating the 65th anniversary of the iconic aluminum Christmas tree. From Nov. 16 through Jan. 4, visitors can experience the glitz and glamour of mid-century holiday décor as the museum’s All-Electric House transforms into a wonderland of vintage aluminum trees.

The exhibit showcases over 20 aluminum Christmas trees from the remarkable private collection of Stephen and Mary Pruitt of Overland Park. Carefully curated, these vintage pieces hail from the late ’50s and early to mid-’60s, and highlight the unique variety of colors, sizes, and styles that made aluminum trees a sensation. The Pruitts’ collection offers visitors a glimpse into the diversity of these mid-century treasures, from classic silvery branches to vibrant colors that bring an extra pop of holiday cheer.

"We are so thrilled to partner again with Stephen and Mary Pruitt to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the aluminum tree,” said Johnson County Museum Director Mary McMurray. “This exhibit is bound to spark wonder in visitors of all ages."

Visitors can also stop by the Museum Store to purchase a miniature tinsel tree of their own, mid-century inspired ornaments, and retro holiday gifts for everyone on their list. Join us this season to relive the magic of a mid-century Christmas!

Admission is $6 for adults; $5 seniors, students, and military; $4 for children; and free for museum members. Our next community Free Day is Nov. 27. Entrance to the special exhibit is included with regular admission to the museum.
