Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., located at the intersection of Douglas and Slade. The parade concludes at the intersection of Douglas and Highland, near City Hall.

Schedule of Event:

Pet Parade: Elgin's Pet Parade invites all house pets to participate for free. The Pet Parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. starting at Douglas Avenue near Ann Street, heading southbound on Douglas Avenue, and concluding at Elgin City Hall (150 Dexter Ct.). Registration is required and is open until June 21, 2024. Fill out the Pet Parade Form here. Participants will receive a participation gift from Dogtopia who will be on-site at our Pet Parade After Party Donation Extravaganza. Anyone can donate and all proceeds go to Anderson Animal Shelter. See this list for donations that are needed for the animal shelter.

The Pet Parade grand marshal will be determined by a social media contest. This contest will take place on the City of Elgin's Facebook page. Please check the page frequently for updates! “The First Official Supreme Chancellor of The Elgin Midwest 4th of July Pet Parade Grand Marshal” will be awarded with a donated prize from Dogtopia and Critters Pet Shop.

Road closures: Road closure preparations begin on July 3rd at 8:00 a.m., with soft road closures on Douglas Avenue (only local traffic allowed). At 7 a.m. on July 4, there will be a hard road closure on Douglas Avenue.

Cars parked on the following streets on July 4th after 6 a.m. will be towed:  

N. Grove Ave. from Kimball St. to River Bluff Rd.  

Brook St. from Kimball St. to River Bluff Rd.

River Bluff Rd. from Spring St. to N. Grove Ave.

Douglas Ave. from River Bluff Rd. to Chicago St.

Parking: We advise that you arrive early. All parking in Downtown Elgin is free. Besides the ample amount of street parking (even with the closed streets), Downtown Elgin offers plenty of free parking in lots and decks throughout the downtown area, a full map can be viewed here.

Centre Parking Garage at the corner of Symphony Way and Douglas Ave

Spring Street Garage at the corner of Spring St. & Highland Ave

Fulton Street Garage at the corner of Fulton St. & Spring St.

Library Lot will be open (parking will be restricted)

Parade Route: The parade steps off promptly at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Slade and Douglas Avenues and ends at Douglas Avenue and Division Street, near City Hall. Seating is available along Douglas Avenue in the public right of way from Slade Avenue to the end of the parade route. The parade will end at approximately 11:00 a.m.
