The Elgin Master Chorale, featuring the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Andrew Lewis, proudly presents an unforgettable afternoon of music highlighting Psalms of David by Elgin’s own Robert Hanson, along with two significant works by Johannes Brahms: The Tragic Overture and Gesang der Parzen (Song of the Fates).
Robert Hanson, a celebrated figure in Elgin’s music community and former Music Director of the Elgin Master Chorale, was commissioned in 1985 to write the Psalms of David. This six-movement choral symphony has gained international recognition for its stirring settings of the Psalms. The Elgin Master Chorale is honored to perform this work for the seventh time, celebrating Hanson’s enduring legacy in the Fox Valley and beyond.
In addition to Hanson’s masterpiece, the program will feature Brahms' Gesang der Parzen, a haunting choral work that explores the fateful tension between gods and humanity, and the dramatic Tragic Overture, known for its emotional depth and orchestral brilliance.
Don't miss this chance to experience a moving tribute to Robert Hanson's legacy ad the majestic music of Brahms.
