Many historians say that ragtime was “introduced” at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893, but it was St. Louis that soon became America’s Ragtime capital. St. Louis duo Cherry & Jerry – percussionist Isaac Cherry and pianist Jerry Rabushka – will explore some of the influences and personalities that brought this music to life. St. Louis was home to the famous composer Scott Joplin and was where he wrote “The Entertainer,” but the whole city was jumping with syncopation. We’ll visit the St. Louis Word’s Fair, Tom Turpin’s famous Rosebud Bar, and the music department at Stix Baer and Fuller, where teenager Irene Giblin was putting out hits. A lively presentation of familiar and rarely played ragtime!Register here: https://indiantrails.libnet.info/event/11065141
