Clinton County Fair
In 1881, Mr. G. D. Staggs and Mr. Salem Cotton organized the first Clinton County Fair, under the direction of the Clinton County Agricultural Society. Both men were civic-minded citizens who understood the need of the community and established an institution that would bring the community together. Mr. Staggs served as President for twenty-eight years. It seems that the pangs of dissolution began to be felt before 1926… each year bringing with it the question as to whether it could possibly survive. That same year, it was reported that the exhibits and fireworks were the most impressive ever. Although there was an absence of the Clinton County Fair for several years, it was established again in the early 1930’s. Today, known as the “Clinton County Club Show”, the Fair continues to be a very important part of Clinton County Iowa. The Clinton County Club Show provides an opportunity for all ages to showcase their talents…whether it’s dog obedience training, equestrian competitions, educational presentations, or exhibiting works of art. In addition, the Clinton County Club Show provides entertainment and activities for all ages to enjoy. Thus, the organization and it’s members preserve a legacy within the community and maintain the validity of the event. It truly is part of the community…
