The Carpet Capital 10 Miler
The beloved Carpet Capital 10 Miler is back for 2024! Still using the original out-and-back course on the scenic Old Prater’s Mill Road and McGaughey Chapel Road, the race will begin at Varnell Elementary, traveling down Prater’s Mill Road, before turning left on Old Prater’s Mill Road and proceeding along most of McGaughey Chapel Road, finally turning around and re-following the course to the start/finish line. This is a USATF certified course, #GA23054WC. Proceeds from the event will benefit local youth athletics. In the last two years, the race has been able to donate over $2500 to local high school cross country and track and field programs. This year, we're opening up grant applications for all area youth athletics programs.
This race started in 1988 as the BASF 10 Miler and was run continuously through 2018. In 1995, the race was renamed the Carpet Capital 10 Miler, and as one of very few USATF certified 10 mile courses in the state of Georgia, holds almost all the state records. Entrants come mainly from Georgia and surrounding states, but other parts of the country have been represented as well as other countries.
There will be no race day registration in 2024.
Event Schedule:
The race will start at 9AM.
Awards will be presented at 11AM.
There will be post-race chili.
