Madi’s Movement Empowers Foster Teens to Build a Brighter Future at Inaugural Pathways to Employment Career Expo
What:
Madi’s Movement, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping foster teens, is hosting its inaugural Pathways to Employment Career Readiness Expo. Founded by Effie Santos in memory of her daughter, Madison Elizabeth, the organization aims to create a world where every foster teen can overcome barriers and achieve their dreams through education, employment, and personal growth. Madi’s Movement provides the support and resources these teens need to succeed and reach their fullest potential.
Who:
Madi’s Movement Pathways to Employment: A Career Readiness Expo for Foster Teens and Young Adults aged 15-25 and at-risk youth.
Background:
Madi’s Movement was born from a heartfelt commitment to empower teens aging out of foster care to achieve independence and success. Founded by Effie Santos in memory of her daughter, Madison 'Madi' Elizabeth, whose vibrant spirit and compassionate heart inspired a legacy of change, the organization continues Madi’s dream of making a significant positive impact on the world, particularly for foster teens who often feel unheard and unseen.
The Pathways to Employment Expo, taking place on Madi’s 23rd birthday, Thursday, August 15th, 2024, aims to support foster teens who are aging out of care and at-risk youth. This event bridges the gap between education and action, providing an interactive platform for teens to actively prepare for various career paths, including aviation, construction, culinary, manufacturing, banking, medical, and many more. The expo features a range of career-preparation activities, including resume workshops, mock interviews with industry leaders, professional headshots, verbal skills sessions, and a career-minded red carpet fashion show. Teens will interact with industry professionals across 30+ fields, receive firsthand career advice, and hear from nine inspirational and mentoring speakers.
A unique feature of the expo is the career-themed "passport" that teens will receive, allowing them to collect stamps as they participate in various activities. These passports can be redeemed for exciting prizes, including laptops, Air Pods, autographed Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning memorabilia, and more. Additionally, each teen will walk away with an outfit ready for job interviews, ensuring they are fully equipped and confident for their career journey.
