Tenley WinterFest
About Tenley WinterFest
In 2004, the Janney Elementary School student council organized a winter market in the school cafeteria. School community members gathered to sell homemade crafts, baked goods, and toys and to raise money for their favorite causes. The market soon attracted a devoted following of students and families who returned each year to participate in this home-grown, community tradition.
The Janney Winter Market, which now includes nearly 100 vendors of all ages selling handmade gifts, accessories and jewelry, artwork, toys, and sweet and savory treats, remains a cornerstone of Tenley WinterFest. The festival has expanded, however, with a week of events along Wisconsin Avenue, from Van Ness to Fessenden Street, that offer a range of dining, entertainment, and wintry fun for all.
Whether it's live music at Middle C Music or on the Metro plaza, dining specials at more than a dozen eateries, crafts, stories, and movies at the library, neighborhood walking tours with the Tenleytown Historical Society, or holiday tree sales at local schools, Tenleytown has become THE place to be at the start of the holiday season.
