(In fact, if sitting in the front row and looking up at the huge screen as the twister ominously approaches is too frightening, you may prefer a seat in the balcony.) This year’s stand-alone sequel to Twister is a winner, adding high stakes to the amazing sound and visual effects with a thrilling human drama. Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is traumatized by losing three colleagues when her new plan to thwart a tornado by goes tragically wrong. But her desire to help the hapless residents of Tornado Alley wins out, as she navigates shifting sides in two rival storm chasing cadres. As the twisters grow in intensity – climate change, anyone? – Kate hopes that her tweaked silver nitrates experiment with silver nitrate will succeed. Glen Powell has all 10,00 watts charisma of a rising star playing Kate’s provocative adversary, a know-it-all YouTuber.
