More than twenty years ago, on a sister city trip to Ireland, Mayor Mike Peters - amazed at the floral beauty of the Irish towns - charged City Councilman Mike McGarry with the task of “blooming” Hartford.

About the same time, and with the same goal of encouraging neighborhood beautification and promoting community pride, Buffalo, NY launched “Garden Walk Buffalo” - a modest event that united thirty gardens in a one-week garden tour.
