Act Out With NCTC This Winter!
The Newington Children Theatre Company (NCTC) has opened enrollment for their winter Act Out sessions for ages 8 and up. Act Out classes give kids an opportunity to learn various tools that actor’s use to develop a character and to get familiar with basic theatre terminology. Weekly classes culminate in a one-act comedy. No experience necessary. Registration required.
Big Bad, Mondays, 4:45-6pm, beginning 1/9. Performance: 3/18 at 4pm: The most notorious criminal in the fairy-tale world, Big Bad Wolf, is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by the countless quirky characters he has wronged. Now, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — will clash (on live Court TV, no less, with Sydney Grimm as commentator!) in a trial that will be remembered forever after.
If the Shoe Fits, Buy it, Tuesdays, 4:45-6pm, beginning 1/17. Performance: 3/18 at 1pm: In this silly spin, we meet Cinderella, the fast-talking sales dynamo of the Castle Shopping Network (CSN). As the winner of the Fairytale Land Advertising Award Necklace (FLAAN) for several years running, she is the apple of her stepmother’s eye. After all, CSN is a family business, and Cinderella’s stepmother is the CEO... and her biggest fan. But now, those pesky stepsisters have invented a product so popular they just might take the top sales spot at this year’s FLAAN Ball!
Tripping and Failing, Saturdays, 12-1:45pm, beginning 1/21. Performance: 3/18 at 10am: It’s Spring Break and time for the Murphys to go on a fun family trip. Throughout the ensuing hilarity of this one act play, the Murphy family experience the old law of “anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” Although the trip seems doomed to fail, this family of whimsical travelers learn that vacation isn’t about experiencing perfect days, but rather spending valuable time with those you love.
Space is limited. For more information, fees, or registration visit www.NCTCArts.org.
