Through their work, artists are able to transform their own vulnerabilities and fears into strength by evoking emotions, embracing curiosity, and encouraging humanity to feel alive. The six artists featured in GOSSAMER approach their individual medias to expose the fragility in the fleeting nature of time and the delicate balance of the natural world. By thoughtfully considering their own complex relationship with feeling separate, yet being connected to a broader view, they provide us with a framework in which to explore our own benevolence.

Walker Fine Art invites you on July 19 to witness the tender elegance of GOSSAMER, presenting new works that utilize oil paint, photography, watercolor, ceramics, and mixed media encaustic installation.

In her multi-media installation “Birds Dream with One Eye Open,” MEAGEN SVENDSEN explores themes of empathy, attachment and awe vis-a-vis human and artificial intelligence. As she contemplates these concepts she poses the question, “What can the natural world teach us about what it means to be human?”

Influenced by the complexity of the medium, BRIAN COMBER explores our natural world in all of it’s flux and flows through his vibrant watercolor paintings. Comber’s new work welcomes spontaneity and as a result is forced to become vulnerable and trusting in the medium, letting it guide his forms and inspire his colors.

JAMIE GRAY's art practice begins with the slow observation and visual comparison of natural forms, resulting in installations made of intricately carved beeswax and pigment on wood. Combing her interest in time, mark-making, materiality, and formalism, Gray aims to create works for interior spaces that recall nature and express feelings she associates with spending time in outside spaces - such as quiet, calm, balance, and groundedness.

Through ethereal watercolor paintings, ALLISON SVOBODA works with the alchemy of water, pigment and elements to reveal the vulnerable state of our earth and the small ripples in which we can affect it. From microscopic to galactic, smaller worlds begin to emerge in her new body of work conveying the paradox of growth and destruction.

GLORIA PEREYRA creates intimate moments in time through her lens. Intertwined by her own poems of love, life, and loss, she likens her camera to her paintbrushes and her photographs to paintings. Pereyra’s work is an illusion and an expression of what is beautiful. She continues to push the confines of photography by experimenting with her exquisite presentations of her work such as silk organza illuminated by silver leaf.

SARA SANDERSON attempts to capture fleeting moments of time, seeking to balance worlds of memory and realism. Often rooted in scenes of luscious fields or rolling landscapes, her work captures the essence of a subject while allowing the viewer to imagine their own sentiment.

Location: Prado Building on 11th Avenue and Cherokee Street (entrance on Cherokee), Denver, CO 80204
