For her first appearance ever in Colorado, the Arts Hub is delighted to introduce Anabel Gil Diaz to the Front Range community. She and her quartet will be playing a mix of jazz standards and classically influenced original compositions. She will be joined onstage by another Boston area musician, Harshit Upadhyaya on drums, and two of our beloved Denver area jazz musicians, the incredibly versatile Steve Denny on piano, and the virtuosic Gonzalo Teppa on bass.
A rising star in the world of jazz flute, award-winning multi-instrumentalist and composer, Anabel Gil Diaz was born and raised in Havana, Cuba where she graduated from the Superior Institute of Art. After making her way to the US, she received full scholarships to Berklee School of Music and the Longy School of Music, where she completed a Masters in Jazz and Contemporary Music. Anabel has performed at prestigious venues throughout the US and Europe, including the Reno and Chicago Jazz Festivals. She can be heard on drummer Terri-Lynne Carrington's 2023 Grammy-winning album, “New Jazz Standards – Vol. 1”. She is also a prolific composer, and her work has been commissioned by the MassArt Art Museum, Boston's Landmarks Orchestra, and Brandeis University.
“More often than we imagine, our energy & essence touches the lives of those around us, creating uplifting or challenging moments, shaped by each person’s unique perspective. One truth remains: the energy flowing through nature—mother Earth, Water, father Fire, and the gentle whispers of the Wind—connects us all.For me, music embodies this energy, acting as a bridge that links us to the universe and each other. It feels like destiny and a sacred expression of the divine, which is why I cherish music as my religion, guiding light and inspiration. I hope to share this connection with you.”
