Join us for an inspiring evening exploring sustainability and design, which will include an exclusive screening of Seaweed Stories and an inspiring panel discussion.
Executive-produced by ArtCenter Trustee Phillip Sarofim, this documentary reveals how this often-overlooked marine organism may hold answers to some of humanity's most concerning challenges—including replacing plastic.
Seaweed Stories will be introduced by the film's executive producers Phillip Sarofim, Founder of Trousdale Ventures and ArtCenter Trustee, and Emy Kane, managing director of Lonely Whale, an organization dedicated to preventing plastic waste from entering the ocean. The special screening will be followed by a panel of experts from ArtCenter and beyond, including film director Jake Sumner; Julia Marsh, co-founder + CEO of Sway, a material innovation startup featured in the film, which won first place in the TOM FORD Plastic Innovation Prize powered by Lonely Whale; ArtCenter Associate Professor Kristine Upesleja, an expert in biomaterials and biofabrication; alum Margaux Reynolds (BS 19), senior design strategist at Designworks, a BMW Group Company; and moderated by Jieon Choi (BS 24), student ambassador, Engineering for One Planet grant project.
