El Dorado High School’s Theatre Department opens its season on November 7th with a classic American comedy, George S. Kaufman’s You Can’t Take it with You. This charming production is a stalwart of the American repertory, and Studio 81’s production promises to be visually stunning and hilarious.

Centering on the story of the Vanderhof family, a family whose eccentricity extends to connecting with equally eccentric people, Kaufman’s play explores the disconnect between wealth and happiness. When young Alice Vanderhof falls in love with Tony, the son of a Wall Street executive, the family’s eccentricities are challenged and the nature of happiness and joy are questioned. In the end, Grandpa brings the voice of reason to the chaos and love and joy triumph.
