Before becoming owners of the new Once Upon A Child in Redding, Andrew and Emily were customers themselves. When the couple first had their twins, they quickly realized that needing two of everything was expensive, along with the fact that their kids were outgrowing their clothes very quickly. Once Upon A Child gave them the opportunity to purchase clothing and equipment that was affordable, and now they hope this store will do the same for the parents of Redding. Outside of parenthood, Emily has spent her career working in cancer research while Andrew was a realtor.
Once Upon A Child’s unique retail resale concept allows for clothing, toys and accessories for kids to end up in someone else’s house rather than thrown into a landfill, providing a resource for new or existing parents who are looking to update their children’s closet on a budget and in a mindful environmental manner.
“Our store fills a unique niche in the retail market," said Emily. "As parents of twins ourselves, we understand the financial challenges of raising children today and aim to provide an affordable option for Redding families. By sourcing merchandise directly from consumers, we can offer lower prices and provide a convenient opportunity for them to receive cash on the spot for items they no longer have a need for.”
Unlike a typical consignment store, Once Upon A Child does not require appointments and pays on the spot for items it purchases from consumers. At Once Upon A Child, families are able to buy necessities for their children at great values, and turn their gently used items into cash.
In addition, Once Upon A Child ensures that all products purchased and sold meet mandatory and voluntary safety standards. Staff members stay up-to-date on current recalled items, immediately pulling all recalled products from shelves and making sure all items purchased are safety-checked to meet current standards.
