5:30 pm - 7:30 pm: Silicon Toxic Dumpsites, Workers Health and Safety and The RICO Case Against Apple
(Zoom event)
With Ashley M. Gjøvik, EPA, OSHA Whistleblower and Fired Apple senior engineering program manager
Apple in silicon valley had an office built on a toxic dump site and workers were getting sick from the fumes. When Apple's senior engineering program manager reported it to Apple, they refused to take action to defend the workers. She went to EPA and had also been harassed and retaliated against on other issues including improper spying on her.
She filed complaints with the EPA, Federal and Cal-OSHA and many other agencies and eventually filed a RICO complaint against Apple.
She discovered they were releasing fumes from a silicon manufacturing facility close to her apartment and the homes of others.
She also discovered that Apple had hired former Obama director of the EPA Lisa Jackson to run the Environmental and Government relations for Apple.
She will report on the systemic violations of health and safety, labor and human rights by Apple and what it means to working people and organizing at Apple.
