The Connie Converse Universe Starring Hope Levy
Everyone has thought one time in their life about disappearing. Connie Converse actually did this; but why?
In this 55-minute engaging folk cabaret, audiences are invited to explore the songs, the life, and the mystery of the first modern-day female folk singer-songwriter Connie Converse whose songs written in the 1950s helped pave the way for future singer-songwriters of the 1960s. Connie Converse has not been seen or heard from since that August day in 1974 when she packed up her belongings in her VW Bug and drove away, never to be seen or heard from again. 35 years after her disappearance, her songs were re-discovered when a CD was put out in 2009 of her original 1954 demos which went viral on Spotify. Singer-songwriter Hope Levy performs Connie’s songs in her live acoustic show.
Interwoven with Connie’s haunting melodies are glimpses into Hope’s own journey as a songbird chosen to carry Connie’s legacy all over the universe! As she shares her own stories and experiences, Hope invites audiences to join her in unraveling the mysteries of Connie’s life and the reasons behind her disappearance.
From Connie’s early days as an academic and editor to her emergence as a musical pioneer, “Connie Converse Universe” offers a poignant exploration of creativity, identity, and the enduring power of music. As Connie’s long-lost songs find new life through Hope’s heartfelt renditions, the show becomes not just a tribute to a forgotten artist, but a celebration of the enduring impact of one woman’s voice.
