Family-Friendly Fourth of July Celebration
The City of Livermore and Livermore Area Recreation and Park District are introducing a new daytime celebration for the community on the fourth of July in lieu of a fireworks show.
Over the years in Livermore, the Independence Day celebration has grown significantly into a regional event. What was once intended to be a community celebration has attracted visitors from all over the Bay Area. Last year, the city partnered with the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) to host a fireworks event. Over 60 percent of the over 12,000 people who attended the event were not from Livermore.
The growing popularity of the city’s Fourth of July event has made it clear that neither the city nor LARPD have the resources or infrastructure (such as roadways and parking) to ensure a safe, family event that the Livermore community can access. Finding additional staffing has been extremely challenging due to the holiday, and regional events that had been held in the past have all been canceled for the same concerns, which has driven more attendees from the region to the City of Livermore event.
Due to the crowd size, neighborhoods have been greatly impacted with traffic and parking issues. More streets are blocked, making it difficult for emergency response vehicles to move around. Additionally, there was a high level of frustration from those stuck in traffic and those who live in the areas impacted by the crowds.
After a lot of thought and consideration for this year's Fourth of July event, the city and LARPD will partner to host a daytime celebration for the Livermore community at the Livermore Municipal Airport. The city’s first and foremost obligation is to ensure safety of the Livermore community.
Rincon Library Storytelling & Parade
The celebrations start the day before! Enjoy fun storytelling and a kids parade at the Rincon Branch Library and May Nissen Park.
In addition, the city encourages the community to enjoy the many other events this summer, like the Livermore Rodeo and parade, Downtown Street Fest, the farmers market, and more.
