Exhibition - Kim Ford Kitz: Field of Vision
Curated by Louisa Gloger
Inverness-based artist Kim Ford Kitz has been unwavering in her dedication to the arts. For as long as she can remember, creative people have surrounded her. As a child, she spent many hours watching her parents rehearse and perform on stage, and most of her relatives painted, designed, and played music. Currently, her artistic practice is evolving towards abstraction with a particular interest in color. A recent series on display in this exhibition incorporates fabric into her creations with a nod towards the colorful embroidery stitching and contrasting textures found in the tradition of crazy quilts. She is applying this new process to the aerial landscape compositions she has explored for some time. Starting with a loose oil sketch on the canvas, Ford Kitz then hand stitches fabrics together and attaches the textile to the canvas, finishing the piece with a final layer of oil paint. Her work is highly tactile and multi-dimensional with this new exploration of fiber, abstraction, and handiwork.
Ford Kitz earned her BFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2005. Her artistic journey has been enriched by successful careers in floral design, visual merchandising, theatrical sets, and scenic design.
