There is no entry fee to apply for this juried exhibition, however membership in Pacific Rim Sculptors is required. Non-members are encouraged to become a member to apply.
The Museum of Sonoma County (MSC), located in downtown Santa Rosa, will present A Question of Balance, featuring the work of the Pacific Rim Sculptors (PRS) from February - May 2024. Work for the exhibition will be selected by jurors Jeff Nathanson, MSC executive director and art curator, and Kate Eilertsen, executive director and chief curator of di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art.
The theme A Question of Balance invites sculptors to submit work that explores the varied and multiple meanings and interpretations of “balance”. Balance can refer to gravity, to mathematics, to accounting, to opposing ideas or components, and so on. Balance is commonly defined as: a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight or amount, or something used to produce equilibrium.
Whether the interpretation of balance is taken literally, conceptually, or tangentially, artists are encouraged to use their own interpretations in use of materials, techniques, subject matter, or a combination of concepts to address the theme of balance. What does balance mean to you personally or in a larger context?
A Question of Balance is a fee-free juried exhibition open to members of Pacific Rim Sculptors, a chapter of the International Sculpture Center based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Artists who work in three dimensions who are not PRS members are encouraged to join to be eligible to submit work for consideration for this exhibition. https://www.pacificrimsculptors.org/Become-a-Member. **If your member fees are not paid and up-to-date you will be removed from consideration.**
