by Rosalba Rolón

THE RED ROSE is a musical theater tribute to foundational Afro/Black Puerto Rican writer and social activist Jesús Colón. Directed by Rosalba Rolón with music by Desmar Guevara, this HOLA and ACE award-winning production uncovers a little-known chapter in the history of the Red Scare. Scenes of immigrant life and community building in New York City frame the story of Colón and his wife Conchita, their unknowing friendship with infiltrator and undercover NYPD/FBI agent Mildred Blauvelt, and Colón and Blauvelt’s final face-off before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in 1959.
